What is Offshore Technical Skills Record (OTSR)?

The Offshore Technical Skills Record (OTSR) is a type of skills documentation granted by the assessing authority body to overseas-trained tradesmen who pass the practical skills assessment in one of the occupations listed above. The OTSR details the technical abilities displayed in the practical assessment as well as any deficiencies in the Australian skills or knowledge component that must be filled in order to satisfy the full trade occupation standard.

Why do I need to do the Australian Context Gap Training?

After obtaining an OTSR, you are eligible to apply for a provisional licence. A provisional licence application can be obtained from the Australian state or territory in where you reside. The provisional license will allow you to work under supervision while completing gap training program.

To be awarded the Australian VET certificate for that occupation under the migration skill assessment system, the OTSR holder must complete Australian context gap training and 12 months of supervised employment in the specified trade before applying for a full licence.
