If you are a Fitter and Turner wanting to migrate to Australia under a skilled migration program such as visa visa 482, visa 491, visa 190, or visa 494, you must complete the compulsory skill assessment. This is one of the most important requirements for your visa application.
Job description
Fits, assembles, grinds and shapes metal parts and subassemblies to fabricate production machines and other equipment.
Specialization:
- Fitter Armament (Army)
Tasks Include:
- Studying drawings and specifications to determine suitable material, method and sequence of operations, and machine settings.
- Cutting, grinding and shaping metal and other materials using specialised tools and machinery
- Fitting fabricated metal parts into products and assembling metal parts and subassemblies to produce machines and equipment.
- Checking fabricated and assembled metal parts for accuracy, clearance and fit using precision measuring instruments.
- Diagnosing and repairing faults with tools and machinery and performing regular maintenance.
Skills Assessment Pathway
A skills assessment determines if you have the skills and experience necessary to work in Australia at the required level for your occupation. There are two skills assessment pathways for this occupation either Pathway 1 or Pathway 2 depends on whether you have or don’t have an accepted Australian qualification.
Pathway 1: You don’t have an Australian qualification.
As part of the skill assessment application process, you must have:
- 5 years’ employment experience with no formal training OR
- 3 years’ employment experience with relevant formal training. Formal training is training that aligns with the national training standards in your country of training.
- At least 12 months working full time within the last 3 years.
- Your evidence must show you have worked in your occupation and must be able to verify.
Pathway 2 – You do have an Australian qualification.
As part of the skill assessment application process, you must have:
- An Australian qualification including a Statement of Results.
- 3 years’ employment experience.
- At least 12 months working full time within the last 3 years.
- Your evidence must show you have worked in your occupation and must be able to verify.
Skill Assessment Outcome
If you successfully completed skill assessment with positive outcome you will receive the following:
- an Australian Certificate III in Engineering – Mechanical Trade
- a Statement of Results
- a migration outcome letter if the assessment is to support your visa application.
