Skills Assessment Requirement

ACECQA conducts a skills assessment for childcare workers (group leaders only) ANZSCO 421111 for the purpose of migration. To be successful, applicants typically need to hold an AQF Diploma or higher or an equivalent qualification and meet the required level of English language proficiency.

Australian Qualification

• An ACECQA-approved diploma level qualification (or higher) in early childhood education and care, or

Or a comparable overseas qualification

• The educational level must be comparable to at least an Australian Diploma which meets the level 5 qualification type descriptor under the Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF), and
• Early childhood education and care qualifications encompass curriculum development and supervised work placements for children from birth to five years of age, and
• At least 280 hours of supervised work placement in an early childhood setting, undertaken during the qualification.

The curriculum content of your qualifications must cover the 4 key areas:

1-Child development and care:

• Provide care for babies and toddlers
• Provide care for children
• Develop positive and respectful relationships with children
• Establish and maintain a safe and healthy environment for children
• Ensure the health and safety of children
• Promote and provide healthy food and drinks
• Establish and implement plans for developing cooperative behavior
• Implement strategies for the inclusion of all children
• Foster the holistic development and wellbeing of the child in early childhood.

2-Curriculum studies:

• Use an approved learning framework to guide practice
• Design and implement the curriculum to foster children’s learning
• and development
• Analyze information to inform learning
• Nurture creativity in children
• Embed sustainable practices in service operations.

3-Early childhood professional practice:

• Promote children’s agency
• Identify and respond to children and young people at risk
• Provide an emergency first aid response in an education and care setting.
• Work within a relevant legal and ethical framework
• Maintain work health and safety
• Facilitate compliance in an education and care service.

4-Family and community contexts:

• Work effectively with Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people
• Work in partnership with families to provide appropriate education and care for children
• Develop cultural competence.

English language Requirement

An applicant must satisfy one of the following English language requirements:

• Completion of one year of full-time tertiary or higher education study in Australia, New Zealand, Ireland, Canada, the United Kingdom, or the United States of America, or
• International English Language Testing System (IELTS) – General or Academic version: a score of five (5.0) or higher in the reading, writing, speaking, and listening components, completed within the last three years, or
• International Second Language Proficiency Ratings (ISLPR) – This is a teacher-focused assessment that requires a Level 4 score in all four skill areas: listening, speaking, reading, and writing. The assessment must be undertaken at an approved testing site and should have been completed within the last three years.
