Skills Assessment and Assessing Authority
If you are a skilled migrant planning to migrate to Australia for work or permanent residency, you may need to secure a positive skills assessment from the relevant assessing authorities. These authorities are important for the General Skilled Migration programs, like subclass 189, subclass 190, subclass 491, subclass 494, subclass 186 Direct Entry, and some occupation mandatory skills assessments for subclass 482.
The Department of Home Affairs has authorized specific assessing authorities to conduct skill assessments. These assessments determine whether a prospective migrant’s skills, qualifications, and work experience meet the standards required for their nominated occupation, as outlined in the ANZSCO for employment in Australia. The Department of Home Affairs relies on these assessments to assess eligibility for skilled migration visas.
