Core Skills Occupation List Overview

On 3 December 2024, the Australian Department of Home Affairs formally announced the Core Skills Occupation List (CSOL), which includes 456 occupations. The Core Skills Occupation List aims to address the skills shortages in various sectors across Australia and provide pathways for skilled workers to contribute to the economy. By identifying key occupations, the government hopes to streamline the immigration process and attract talent that aligns with the nation’s workforce needs.

On 7 December 2024, the Department of Home Affairs replaced the Temporary Skill Shortage (TSS) visa 482 with a new Skills in Demand (SID) visa 482. The Core Skills Occupation List is a requirement for both the Skills in Demand visa 482 and the 186 Direct Entry Stream visa application.

The following table contains 456 occupations on the Core Skills Occupation List (CSOL) that are eligible for the Subclass 482 Skills in Demand Visa and the Subclass 186 Direct Entry Stream Visa.

ANZSCO Skill Level Definitions

The Australian Qualification Framework (AQF) defines ANZSCO Skilled Levels based on educational degrees, formal training, and relevant work experience. The following definitions set the boundaries between ANZSCO skill levels.

Level 1: Bachelor/Master/PhD
Level 2: Diploma/Advance Diploma/Associate Degree
Level 3: Certificate III/IV
Level 4: Certificate II/III 
Level 5: Certificate I
