Is a skills assessment required for a subclass 482 visa?

Certain primary visa applicants must undergo a mandatory skills assessment as part of the Subclass 482 Skills in Demand (SID) visa application process. If your occupation or country of passport appears in the table below, you are required to obtain a positive skills assessment for the Subclass 482 visa.

This assessment aims to ensure that applicants have the necessary qualifications and expertise for their nominated roles in Australia. The skills assessment outcome will indicate whether you possess the necessary skills and experience at the required level to work in Australia in your nominated occupation.

Mandatory skills assessment for subclass 482 Visa

There are 24 ANZSCO occupations that require a mandatory skills assessment for the subclass 482 visa. Refer to the legislation Migration (IMMI 18/039: Mandatory Skills Assessment—Subclass 482 Visa) for details.

If your passport country is listed under your occupation in the mandatory skills assessment list below, you must obtain a skills assessment for your Subclass 482 visa application to the Department of Home Affairs.

Who is eligible for exemption from a mandatory skills assessment?

You might be eligible to claim an exemption if you meet one of the following exemption criteria:

Exemption 1

If you are the main applicant for the subclass 482 visa and you currently hold either a subclass 457 or subclass 482 visa, and you are in Australia working for your sponsor who has nominated you for the relevant occupation, you are exempt from the requirement to undergo a mandatory skills assessment.

Exemption 2

If you are the main applicant for the subclass 482 visa and are employed by an overseas company with standard business sponsor approval, and they have nominated you to work for their Australian branch under the approved nomination, you are exempt from the mandatory skills assessment requirement.

Exemption 3

If you are the primary applicant for a subclass 482 visa , hold relevant qualifications for the occupation ANZSCO 511112, program or project administrator and have been nominated by an accredited sponsor offering an annual salary of at least AUD 180,000, you are exempt from undergoing a mandatory skills assessment.
