Job description
Designs, builds, fits and repairs splints, braces, callipers, artificial limbs and related appliances to restore function or compensate for muscular and skeletal disabilities. Registration or licensing may be required.
Qualification Requirements
AQF bachelor’s degree or higher degree. This includes qualifications assessed at AQF Bachelor, Master and Doctoral level.
Highly relevant major fields of study include:
- Dual Prosthetics & Orthotics qualification
English Language Requirement
All applicants must provide an English proficiency test report within three (3) years from the test date. International English Language Testing System (IELTS) Academic test – at least 7.0 or higher for each of the 4 test components.
If the applicant has graduated from a dual-stream (orthotic AND prosthetic) programme offered by a tertiary training institution where they studied in English, they are considered to have met the minimum English language requirements, and they do not need to complete additional English language testing to apply for AOPA certification. This exemption applies only to applicants who graduated from the following countries:
- Australia
- Canada
- New Zealand
- The Republic of Ireland
- The Republic of South Africa
- The United Kingdom
- The United States of America
Documents Requirement

- Passport and passport photo
- Proof of identity, including a national ID or driver’s license
- Birth Certificate
- Qualification certificate and academic transcript
- Resume/CV

There are two stages of the application process.

According to The Australian Orthotic Prosthetic Association (AOPA) the current processing time for skill assessment is 12 weeks from the date of submission.

Payment must be made directly to the assessing authority The Australian Orthotic Prosthetic Association (AOPA) when the application is submitted.
