The Migration Skills Assessment (MSA) is for applicants who plan to apply to the Department of Home Affairs for skilled migration visas such as Visa Subclass 491, Visa Subclass 190, and Visa Subclass 189. The skills assessment is part of their skilled migration visa application.
The relevant assessing authority authorised by the Australian Government issues the results of skills assessments. The assessing authority is an organisation that verifies that your skills and qualifications meet the requirements for employment in your chosen occupation (ANZSCO). Only a successful migration skill assessment outcome can be used to support your visa application for migration purposes with the Department of Home Affairs.
Can I get PR in Australia without a skill assessment?
Having your skills assessed is a requirement for skilled migration to Australia under points-tested general skilled migration visas, including skilled independent Visa Subclass 189, state-nominated Visa Subclass 491, skilled-nominated Visa Subclass 190, or regional-nominated Visa Subclass 494. Therefore, if you can’t meet the requirements for a skills assessment, you can’t apply for these visas.
Can I submit an EOI without a skills assessment?
The skill assessment is one of the mandatory criteria for your general skilled migration visa, such as Visa Subclass 189, Visa Subclass 491, and Visa Subclass 190 under the point-tested scheme. You must first obtain a positive skills assessment in the occupation for which you are nominating before submitting your expression of interest (EOI). Therefore, if you don’t have a positive skill assessment outcome, you will not be eligible to apply for the EOI.
How long is migration skill assessment valid?
For the purposes of skilled migration, a positive skills assessment result is generally valid for three (3) years from the date of the initial issue. For validation, it is advised that applicants get confirmation from the appropriate assessing authority.
How long does it take to complete the migrating skills assessment?
It is determined by your ANZSCO occupation and the assessing authority. Each assessing authority has their own skill assessment criterion and timeframes, and the time required to finish the process will vary based on how you present your document evidence in the ready-decision form.
