Job Description
Early Childhood (Pre-primary School) Teachers teach the basics of numeracy, literacy, music, art and literature to early childhood (pre-primary) students and promote students’ social, emotional, intellectual and physical development.
Tasks Include:
- planning and structuring learning in both indoor and outdoor environments using a variety of materials and equipment to facilitate students’ development
- providing a variety of experiences and activities to develop motor skills, cooperative social skills, confidence and understanding
- promoting language development through storytelling, role play, songs, rhymes and informal discussions held individually and within groups
- observing students to evaluate progress and to detect signs of ill health, emotional disturbance and other disabilities
- observing nutritional health, welfare and safety needs of students and identifying factors which may impede students’ progress
- discussing students’ progress with parents
- attending parent interviews, and staff and committee meetings
- participating in community and family support programs as appropriate
- supervising student teachers on placement
Qualification Requirement
Completion of a minimum of four years of full-time higher education or the equivalent amount of part-time education. The studies must include an initial teacher education qualification, this includes qualifications assessed at AQF Bachelor, Master and Doctoral level.
- at least one year full-time (or part-time equivalent) higher education (university) level study of Early Childhood (Pre-primary School) Teacher initial teacher education
- completion of at least 45 days of supervised teaching practice with students across the Birth to 8 years age range in education programs prior to and in the early years of primary school.
English Language Requirement
English competence must be demonstrated by all applicants, and only one (1) of the following will be accepted by AITSL:
Option 1
Complete at least four years of full-time education or the equivalent amount of part-time education at a university in Australia, Canada, the Republic of Ireland, New Zealand, the United Kingdom, or the United States of America. The studies must include an initial teacher education qualification, which includes qualifications that are equivalent to the AQF Bachelor, Master, and Doctoral levels of education.
Option 2
The International English Language Testing System (IELTS) Academic Test requires at least 7.0 for each component (reading and writing) and at least 8.0 for each component (speaking and listening).
The applicant must provide an English proficiency test report within three (2) years from the test date.

- Passport and passport photo
- Proof of identity, including a national ID or driver’s license
- Qualification certificate and academic transcript (Initial Teacher Education (ITE) qualification)
- English language proficiency evidence
