If you are an international student or migrant with a physiotherapy degree, you can migrate to Australia under the occupation ANZSCO 252511: Physiotherapist, as the occupation is listed on the Medium Long Term Strategic Skills List (MLTSSL), the Skilled Occupation List (SOL). The MLTSSL is a list of high-demand occupations defined by the Departments of Education and Training and Department of Home Affairs Australia.

What is the ANZSCO code for Physiotherapists?
The Skilled Occupation List (SOL) is a collection of ANZSCO occupations chosen by the Departments of Employment (DoE) and Home Affairs. Each occupation has its own name and 6-digit ANZSCO number, according to the Australian and New Zealand Standard Classification of Occupations (ANZSCO). The ANZSCO gives information on the skill level for its occupation as well as the qualifications and work experience required.
The ANZSCO code for a physiotherapist is 252511.

What is the skills assessment for physiotherapy in Australia?
If you are a physiotherapist from another country and want to work in Australia, you must meet certain standards set by the Australian Physiotherapy Council in order to be registered as a physiotherapist in Australia.
After the Council decides that you are qualified to do physiotherapy in Australia and gives you a Final Certificate, you must apply to the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (Ahpra) for General Registration.
There are three skill assessment pathways, each pathway in particular has its own set of requirements.
- Standard Assessment Pathway
- Express FLYR Pathway
- FLYR Pathway
The result of the skills assessment will indicate whether it can be used to apply for a visa, and only a positive result is valid for your General Skilled Migration (GSM) visa application.

What does a physiotherapist do?
A physiotherapist assesses, treats and prevents disorders in human movement caused by injury or disease. Registration or licensing is required.
Tasks Include:
- administering muscle, nerve, joint and functional ability tests to identify and assess physical problems of patients
- designing treatment programs to address patients’ problems.
- treating patients to reduce pain, improve circulation, strengthen muscles, improve cardiothoracic, cardiovascular and respiratory functions, restore joint mobility, and improve balance and coordination
- using the therapeutic properties of exercise, heat, cold, massage, manipulation, hydrotherapy, electrotherapy, ultraviolet and infra-red light and ultrasound in the treatment of patients
- reviewing, continually monitoring, assessing and evaluating programs and treatments
- consulting with other Health Professionals as required about patients’ problems, needs and progress
- instructing patients and their families in procedures to be continued at home
- recording treatments given and patients’ responses and progress
- developing and implementing screening and preventative health promotion programs
