The TSS Skills Assessment Program is an assessment pathway for applicants applying for a Temporary Skill Shortage (TSS) visa who work in a nominated occupation and who hold a passport from a nominated country or Special Administrative Region (SAR). The TSS Skills Assessment are required by the Department of Home Affairs (Home Affairs) that the applicant have a skills assessment for temporary migration purpose in Australia.

The objective of the TSS Skills Assessment Program (TSS Program) is to determine whether an applicant is able to work in Australia at the required skill level for the nominated occupation. This aims to ensure successful oversea applicants can contribute high skills to Australia’s skilled workforce.

Who are Skill Assessment Authority in Australia?

Trades Recognition Australia (TRA) is an Australian Government Body attached to the Department of Employment, Skills, Small, and Family Business Department. TRA is a registered training organisation, the TRA-approved RTOs to perform aspects of the skills assessment process on its behalf under certain programs.  TRA is an organisation that checks that your skills meet the standards they set to work in a relevant occupation.

How long will it take to process my skills assessment?

The Skills Assessment Authority will advise you how long the process will take. Typically, an assessment may be completed within 13 weeks from the date you submit the required documentary evidence to the RTO. How to apply for TSS Skills Assessment?

Choose a TRA-approved RTO, you are required to select an RTO to conduct your skills assessment. This is completed through the RTO Finder located on the TRA website.

  • Selecting your nominated occupation from the list available.
  • Reviewing the list of TRA-approved RTOs.
