Western Australian Skilled Migration Occupation List

The Western Australian Skilled Migration Occupation List (WASMOL) is a list of ANZSCO skilled occupations available to applicants who have a nominated occupation on the WASMOL General stream or the Graduate Occupation List (GOL) Graduate stream and want to apply for the Western Australia State Nomination via the subclasses 491 or 190 visa.

The Western Australian State Government announced changes to the Western Australian Skilled Migration Occupation List (WASMOL) Schedule 1 and Schedule 2 and Graduate Occupation List (GOL) occupation list for the migration program for subclasses 190 and 491 in August 2022 as the following:  

  • The WASMOL Schedule 1 occupations list has been expanded to 89 occupations.
  • The WASMOL Schedule 2 occupations list has been expanded to 188 occupations.
  • The GOL occupations list has been expanded to 331 occupations.

The occupations of vehicle painter, roof tiler, property manager, and pastry cook, along with other I.T. professionals and healthcare workers, have been added to the 2022-2023 combined occupation lists below. Check to see if your occupation is on the list by using the search feature below.

What is WASMOL's Schedule 1 requirement?

According to information provided by the Western Australian State Government, applicants seeking a state nomination under General stream WASMOL's Schedule 1 must meet the following criteria.

ANZSCO occupation

Your ANZSCO occupation must be listed on the Western Australian Skilled Migration Occupation List Schedule 1

Meet the minimum visa requirements

You must meet the Department of Home Affairs requirements for either the Skilled Work Regional (Provisional) visa (subclass 491) or the Skilled Nominated visa (subclass 190).

Meet the required English test

You must have a minimum English test score of Competent English level, IELTS 6.0 in each band, IELTS 6.0 in each band or PTE Academic test 50 in each band, or another equivalent test such as Occupational English Test (OET), TOEFL-iBT, or Cambridge C1 Advanced. You do not need to take an English test if you have a valid passport from the United Kingdom, Canada, New Zealand, the United States of America, or Ireland.

Meet the required work experience 

You must meet the work experience requirements as below:

a) At least one-year of post-qualification paid employment with a minimum of 20 working hours per week in Australia in the nominated or closely related occupation in the last 10 years: or
b) At least one year of post-qualification paid employment with a minimum of 20 working hours per week outside Australia in the nominated or closely related occupation in the last 10 years.

Must have an employment contract

If you are applying for a Skilled Nominated visa (subclass 190), you must have a full-time employment contract in your nominated or closely related occupation in Western Australia for at least 6 months from the date of your application for state nomination. Full-time employment is defined as paid work that requires at least 35 hours per week on average. You can provide two employment contracts to cover the 35 hours.

If you are applying for a Skilled Work Regional (Provisional) visa (subclass 491), you do not need to have an employment contract.

Meet the study requirements.

You must have at least two years of study in Western Australia at an accredited Australian educational institution with a full-time and face-to-face study mode. The combination of your qualifications could be an English language program, and from Certificate III level to a university degree within your 2 years of study.

A qualification from Western Australia

At the time of your study, you must have obtained one of the following qualifications from an accredited educational institution in Western Australia that met the accreditation requirements outlined below.

  • A university or higher education qualification. A PhD, Masters, Bachelor's, or higher degree (Bachelor Honours Degree, Graduate Certificate, or Graduate Diploma); and/or
  • A Certificate III or higher level of vocational education and training (VET).
